Youth Bayanihan Captured

St. Joseph the Worker Parish Youth Apostolate (PYA) conducted a Christmas Break Youth Camp (CBYC) at St. Francis Xavier College Seminary, Catalunan Grande, Davao City last December 26-28, 2013. It serves them as a Reunion of all youth in the different GKK's. Since I am one of the Organizer of the event and Officer of the PYA Ministry, I was there to helped my co-officer to run the activities. Every officer has there responsibilities so my responsibility during the camp was to make an official newsletter of the Christmas Break Youth Camp.

In the fateful darkness of the first night of the camp, everyone was caught in a surprise when the calmed weather turned drastically into what everyone was not anticipating for. Heavy rains with gusting winds poured down the campsite in the middle of the time allotted for cooking. Tents were blown away, food and camp materials are getting wet and it seems like that there was nowhere else to go. Within minutes, it is inevitable that the tents rendered helpless and an evacuation was held at once.

Without hesitation, the campers boldlessly helped each other. United as one team, the participants carried their tents, picked up whatever belongings they can save, and fled immediately to the safe zone of the covered court. Officers/Organizers smothered in a mud and wet in the rain rushed in to help their fellow campers and carried the bags and belongings of others. Random people come together and carried tents to the court. People shared their food to mends the needs of those who are hungry. Officers checked if their campers are okay or if something was there to attend to. Everyone felt responsible for each other's welfare and was indeed selfless.

Indeed, Life is full of surprises just like the heavy rain and gusting winds which may have swept the campsite but the true character within us defines who we really are. The Youth Bayanihan is a testimony of such Christian idea. Truly, the true picture of Bayanihan spirit was captured not only in just pictures but more importantly in the hearts and actions of the youth.
